Rocky Mountain Marshmallows is Germany’s original and only supplier of authentic American marshmallows, selling more than two million bags annually.
In 2010, the challenge for Rocky Mountain Marshmallows boosting brand awareness with new audiences and encouraging consumers to use marshmallows in new, inventive ways.
Guinness World Records Solution
To enable the brand to achieve these aims, Rocky Mountain Marshmallows decided to use a Guinness World Records attempt to create a very special Rocky Mountain Marshmallow experience – the world’s Largest muffin.
The campaign saw Rocky Mountain Marshmallows search Germany for its premier konditormeister or baker.
They identified Gerad Hinz, the 71 year-old konditormeister of bakery Schanzen Backeri, who was tasked with creatinh the mammoth muffin which included 50kgs of flour, 19kgs of butter and 5kgs of the brand’s marshmallows.
For added PR value, Queensberry – a popular German girl-band and stars of TV-show Popstars – helped ‘bake’ the muffin in front of a gathered audience.
Record Breaking Results
The Guinness World Records Adjudicator that the finished muffin had a 79 cm diameter, was 45.5 cm high and weighed 88.7 kg, and a new Guinness World Records title had been set.
The successful event generated more than €200,000 of press coverage across print, online and TV media.
Queenberry handed out the muffin to members of the public in return for donations and raised more than €500 for Hamburg’s Leuchtfeuer hospice.
