Record title: Largest playing card structure
Date: March 2010
Brand: The Venetian Macau
Location: Macau, China
The Venetian Macau has been one of Macau's flagship resort-hotel developments since opening in 2007.
Three years after its launch, and to maintain its phenomenal popularity, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide was tasked with creating a unique event with international appeal which would showcase The Venetian Macau and attract people to the resort.
In line with its heritage, The Venetian Macau enlisted the help of Bryan Berg, professional cardstacker and multiple Guinness World Records holder, to create the world’s Largest playing card structure.
To achieve this title Bryan Berg created a replica of The Venetian Macau’s resort site entirely from playing cards.
His creation mirrored the intricate details of the Cotai Strip, including The Venetian Macao's Rialto Bridge and Campanile Tower.
The record attempt took place within The Venetian Macau, with Berg spending 44 days creating the complex structure using more than 190,000 cards.
On 10 March 2010, The Venetian Macau opened its doors to the world’s media as Guinness World Records Adjudicator confirmed the structure’s measurements.
Following the adjudication, Berg knocked down the structure to prove he had not used tape, glue, or any other substance to aid his construction.
During the 44-day building process more than 20 local titles covered the activity.
The launch event was attended by international media, which resulted in 62 pieces of coverage in mainland China and 41 pieces of additional coverage from around the world.
The record-breaking campaign generated 150 pieces of press coverage in total with an equivalent advertising value of $450,000.
